Mount Shasta's traditional Fourth of July celebration, including a parade, a Walk/Run event that draws upwards of 5,000 people, a fireworks show over Lake Siskiyou, a quilt show at the Sisson Museum, downtown vendors and food booths, live entertainment, and -- this year for the first time -- a climbing rock, is scheduled for July 4, 5 and 6.

Mike Rodriguez, the longtime administrator of Mount Shasta, Dunsmuir and Weed  Recreation and Parks Districts, has been named the grand marshal for the 2008 Fourth of July parade in Mount Shasta.
The traditional event in Mount Shasta includes the parade, a Walk/Run event that draws upwards of 5,000 people, a fireworks show over Lake Siskiyou, a quilt show at the Sisson Museum, downtown vendors and food booths, and live entertainment throughout the weekend. This year a climbing rock is coming to town.
On Wednesday July 2 and  Thursday July 3 walkers and runners will be able to register for the July 4 run/walk sponsored by the Mountain Runners of Mount Shasta and pick up their T-shirts from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the National Guard Armory located at 618 Everitt Memorial Highway.

An all you can eat $7.00 pancake breakfast will be held at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall in Mount Shasta the morning of the race from 6:30 am to 11:00 am.
The Mountain Runners Walk/ Run event is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am at the Castle Street starting line.
The downtown 4th of July parade is set to start at 12:00 noon on Mount Shasta Boulevard. The theme of the parade is ‘Memories of the Past, Visions of the Future.’
Participants and spectators are being requested not to bring pets into the downtown area.
The fireworks display is scheduled to start at 9:15 pm on Friday the 4th. The Mount Shasta Resort Green opens at 4:00 pm for community appreciation day. The band Rock-It will perform. Admission is $2.00 per person with the proceeds going to support the Fireworks Fund. Food and drinks will be available. Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort is also available for viewing the fireworks.
