Working together this holiday season, 25 Siskiyou County individuals and organizations raised $5,000 to be given to the Siskiyou Food Relief Fund. This $5,000 will be matched by an anonymous donor via the Shasta Regional Community Foundation, allowing a $10,000 donation to Great Northern Corporation for food banks throughout Siskiyou County,
The Mount Shasta Rotary was one of the organizations involved. At their annual Christmas gathering, members donated over $600 for the cause, which was matched by the Rotary Club itself. Thus, the $657 donated by Rotary individuals resulted in a $2,268 donation to the cause.
In the wake of the national economic downturn, local food banks are seeing an increase in need while also experiencing a decrease in donations to feed the hungry, reports the SRCF. “It is an encouragement to see such generosity rise from our communities even during such difficult economic times,” said Kathy Ann Anderson, CEO of the Foundation. “There is nothing more important  to a human being than the need for food and shelter, and we applaud all the donors who gave and the community organizations who continue to work on the front lines daily.”
