Ruth Jeanette Sprunger, 81, of Weed, passed away at home, April 26, 2009.
She was born April 6, 1928 in Berne, Indiana, sixth of nine children to David P. and Mary P. (Habegger) Steury.
She married Gerald Sprunger of Berne, July 11, 1948.
Ruth and Gerry worked for Berne Furniture Company, becoming proficient in custom sewing and upholstery respectively.
Their first three children, Mike, Debbie and Paul were born while living in Berne.
In 1954, Ruth attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha NE, along with her husband who studied for the ministry.
Their children Mary and David were born while Gerry was pastoring in Nebraska. In 1970, Ruth and Gerry moved to Weed to pastor the Berean Church, serving the church and community in many capacities.
Ruth was a homemaker whose life’s work was supporting her family, helping anyone who came across her path. She was a cook, hostess, gardener and seamstress. She kept the books for the church in later years.
She loved to read the Bible, committing many passages to memory. She faithfully applied its principles to her life situations and encouraged others to do the same. Ruth determined to trust God through many medical challenges in life, no matter the outcome.
Ruth is survived by her five children and their spouses: Mike and Rene’ Sprunger of Papillion, NE, Debbie and John Wetzig of Grenada, CA, Paul and Paula Sprunger of Dundee, OR, Mary Beth and Dan DeRoss of Weed, and David and Jenni Sprunger of Medford, OR, 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
A memorial for Ruth is scheduled at Weed Berean Church, May 3, 3 p.m.
