The Mount Shasta High School cheerleaders came home well-decorated from a recent National Cheerleaders Association summer camp in Anderson.
More than 100 cheerleaders from 10 schools participated in one of 1,000 camps administered by NCA each summer around the world.
Coached by Suzzanne Lunney, the Mount Shasta cheerleaders received the following awards:
• All American nominations for Brenna Dyck (jumps), Miranda Waite  (stunts) and Madison Melo  (jumps).
• The Herkie TEAM Award for the squad that exemplifies the qualities upon which NCA was founded: leadership, values and teamwork. The award is named after NCA founder L.R. Herkimer.
• Champion Chant – Teams compete with a chant that they learned during the camp. Technical skills and their ability to lead the crowd are judged to select the winner.
• Spirit Stick Winner – Presented to the squad showing the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm throughout the camp. Lunney said Mount Shasta’s girls earned the spirit stick every day during the camp and brought it home on the last day.
• The Bears earned various ribbons ranging from Excellent to Superior for their performance evaluations from their NCA team coach.
Founded in 1948, NCA has been conducting camps for 60 years and holds events annually for 150,000 cheerleaders and dancers around the world.
