Patricia Suzanne (Caswell) Steyer passed away August 21, 2009 at Modoc Medical Center in Alturas, California after a brief illness. She was attended by her loving husband Dick, and numerous family members.
There will be a memorial service at the Federated Church in Alturas Friday, August 28 at 2 p.m., with a reception following.
There will also be an interment ceremony at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park Saturday, August 29 at 2 pm.
Sue was born in McCloud, California November 12, 1933 to John and Francis Caswell. Sue graduated high school in 1952, continuing her education at Chico State University where she became a laboratory technician.
Sue returned to McCloud for a short stint as a lab tech only to leave the area to follow Dr. and Mrs. Lynch to start a practice in Alturas. Sue met Bob Sloss in Alturas who became her husband of 40 plus years.
Bob and Sue were owners/publishers of the Modoc County Record, the family newspaper which had been purchased from Bob’s father, Robert M.“Gop” Sloss.
Sue was involved with golf and numerous other activities. She loved the outdoors, especially outings to Blue Lake, Clear Lake and the family cabin at Joseph Creek. Bob and Sue had four children. Bob Sloss preceded Sue in passing in 1997.
Sue met Richard “Dick” Steyer and they married in 1999. They enjoyed many years together traveling, attending events and enjoying life.
Sue will be remembered as a positive person who exerted that influence over the lives she touched. She was inspirational and a strong supporter in many lives. She was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside.
Sue had four children, Laura Jordan, husband Michael with sons Jesse and Tyler of New Plymouth, Idaho, daughter Kerry Sloss and Denise Burtis of Danville, California, daughter Meg Sloss with son Paul and daughter Annette of Davis, California, and son John with wife Barbara and son Anthony, daughters Camille and Carly of Benicia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, but leaves a brother John “Gary” Caswell of Redding, California.
