Ruth Calkins, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend of many, passed away on the morning of August 21, 2009. She was a resident of the Redwood Retirement in Napa, California.
Ruth was born in Fortuna, California on October 18, 1914 to Theodore and Helga Anderson, immigrants of Norway.
When she was a teenager she moved to Siskiyou County where she met her late husband, Jerome “Jack” Calkins, whom she married on October 12, 1935.
Ruth and Jack spent most of their married life in Weed, California where they raised two children, Marilyn Tallerico of Napa and Gary Calkins of Ooltewah, Tennessee. Besides her children Ruth is survived by seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held this Thursday, August 27, at 1 p.m., at Mount Shasta Memorial Park in Mount Shasta. The burial will be under the direction of Claffey and Rota’s funeral home of Napa.
The family would especially like to thank the members of Napa Valley Hospice and Norman Becker of Redwood Retirement for their kind care during her final days.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to suggest memorial contributions be made to Napa Valley Hospice or Grace Presbyterian Church in Weed.
