Alvin Shelton, 77, of Canby, Oregon, died Sunday, August 9, 2009.
He was born June 10, 1932, in Greenville, Tennessee to Hobart and Betty Shelton.
In Tennessee, he helped his parents sharecrop tobacco and later worked in brickyards in Illinois. He came to Oregon in 1957 and went to work at S.R. Smith as a laborer. He retired as purchasing manager 36 years later.
He served in the US Army in the motor pool in Alaska. He appeared on the Ed Sullivan “All Services Talent Show” with his army band and won first place.
A member of Canby American Legion Post 122, he was an avid golfer and bowler.
Survivors include his daughters, Teresa of Greenville, Tennessee and Dee of Mosheim, Tennessee; sons, Shane of Weed, California and Todd of Molalla; fiancée, Vickie Haines; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held this Sunday, August 30, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Canby American Legion Hall.
