Alex Broomfield Jr., a resident of Weed, passed away of natural causes on August 24, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta. He was 64.
Alex was born in Louise, Mississippi on March 11, 1945. He moved to Siskiyou County from Louise in 1967.
Alex married Johnnie Lou Suthers on July 9, 1967 in Louise, Mississippi.
He worked as an edgeman for International Paper Company. Alex loved spending time with his family, singing and blues music.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Broomfield of Weed; three daughters, Patricia Ann Broomfield of Weed, Angela Cooper and Debbie Cooper Humble, both of Indiana; two brothers, J.W. Broomfield and James Broomfield, both of Weed; three sisters, Hazel Thomas of Weed, Grace Thomas and Dorothy Frazier, both of Mississippi; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Alex O’Neal Broomfield; brothers, Roosevelt Broomfield and R.B. Broomfield; sister, Waylee Jackson; and parents, Alex and Hattie Broomfield.
Viewing will take place this Friday, August 28 at 10 a.m.; followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel in Mount Shasta. Burial is at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park.
