V. “Reid” Dawson went to be with the Lord Monday, November 9, 2009 in Marlow Oklahoma.
He was born July 31, 1923 on the Dawson family farm near Fletcher, Oklahoma.
Reid graduated from Cyril High School in Cyril Oklahoma, where he participated in sports and theater. He enjoyed dancing and singing country songs.
During World War II he served in the US Navy, stationed in San Diego, California. After the war he moved to Weed, California where he made his home for over 65 years, working in the lumber industry for more than 35 years.
He loved the great outdoors and was active in hunting and fishing, as well as square and round dancing. In the ’50s he was also active in hard top racing.
He is survived by two daughters, Pam Rowden and her husband, Gary of Canby, Oregon, and Loretta Bradley and her husband, Harry of Fernley, Nevada; one brother, Jack Dawson and his wife, Clarene of Fletcher, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Marsa McCusker, Chris and Noel Welch, and Danielle Molisee; nieces and nephews, including Dave, Melvin, Margaret Ann, Danny (Dawson), Elva June Sims, Dee Nix, Marsha, Julie, Danny (Dawson), Elise, Diane, June (Dawson), and Ronnie, Cathy, Debbie, Charlene (Dawson); and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lloyd, Glen, Edger and Holley Dawson; two sisters, Opal Bushnell and Helen Nix.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Berean Church, 750 South Weed Blvd, Weed, California.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Christian Church of your choice.
