As the snow continues to fall, there are some restrictions  currently in place on South County roads.
As of 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, chains are required on single axle drive vehicles towing trailers four miles north of Dunsmuir to the Black Butte Summit just south of Weed on Interstate 5, according to the California Department of Transportation’s website.
Northbound traffic is being screened at Fawndale, 10 miles north of Redding. Drivers must have chains in their possession in order to proceed. Permit loads are not permitted.
In addition, a high wind advisory is in effect from 13 miles north of Redding all the way to Yreka. Travel is not recommended for campers, trailers or permit loads.
On Highway 89, chains are required on all vehicles except four wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from the junction of Highway 299 to the junction of Interstate 5.
