With 730 Mount Shasta residences still without electricity as of 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, the emergency shelters at the Mount Shasta Community Center and McCloud’s First Baptist Church will stay operational through the night.
Pacific Power is requesting that customers who are still without electricity unplug appliances, television, stereos and other electrical equipment around their homes to reduce demand on the system as power is brought back on. This will also reduce damage to electrical equipment.
A Winter Storm Update released this afternoon by the Siskiyou County Health and Community Development Department urges residents using alternative heating systems and/or generators in their homes to be aware of the risks of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Generators should be located outside and far enough away from any occupied space that fumes are not drawn or blown by prevailing winds into a dwelling.
Residents dealing with extreme emergencies should, as always, call 9-1-1.
