Better days were ahead for the Weed Cougars after they lost all four games to University Prep of Redding the night of Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 in Weed.
The games were played the night of a bye in the Cougars' SCL schedule, at the end of a stormy week that forced the postponement of scheduled league games against Burney the Tuesday before.
Weed's varsity boys went on to defeat Mount Shasta in a key SCL game on Tuesday night, Jan. 26. The following night all four Cougar teams defeated Mercy of Red Bluff in non-league play in Weed.
With a 48-47 win in Mount Shasta, Weed's varsity boys extended their fast SCL start to 5-0. They are scheduled to take their 15-3 overall record to Weaverville Friday night to face yet another challenging SCL foe. Though the Wolves are just 1-2 in league, they defeated the Cougars at the Fall River tournament in early December and held the lead against the Cougars until the final seconds of a 46-45 Weed win in the SCL opener for both teams Jan. 5.
Cougar varsity boys coach Mike Carpine said his team's three consecutive road games in a week against Mount Shasta (3-2), Trinity and Fall River (5-1) on Feb. 2 will be "the toughest week of the season... After next week, we'll know where we stand."
