Both teams scored runs in five of the seven innings of Weed High School’s 15-10 baseball win at Dunsmuir Tuesday evening.
The Cougars scored 7 runs in the top of the 4th inning to take an 11-2 lead, then Tigers cut it to 13-9 with 3 runs in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th.
Robert Aquila had 3 of the Cougars' 16 hits and drove in 2, while Brian Hoy, Jace Wright and Luke Hart had 2 hits each.
Hoy tripled and drove in a run and Hart drove in 2.
Gabe Gubetta doubled and drove in 2, Robert Sanchez doubled and drove in 1, Travis Greene had a single and 1 RBI, and Jeremiah Herrin, Brandon Ede, Cameron Dayen and Efrain Gonzalez each singled.
Ede led the Cougars with 3 runs scored, while Wright crossed the plate twice.
The Cougars had 15 stolen bases in 15 attempts, 5 by Aquila, 4 by Ede and 2 each by Herrin and Wright.
Travis Greene pitched the first 3 innings for the Cougars to earn the win. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 3 innings while striking out 3 and walking 4.
Brian Hoy and Brandon Ede pitched 1 inning each and Zach Van Keuren pitched the last 2.
Weed, which lost its Shasta Cascade League openers to Fall River, 6-20 and 5-15 on March 26, improved its overall record to 3-7.
Weed is scheduled to play at Burney this Friday, April 2.
