Alice Rhetta Griffith, 88, formerly longtime resident of Dunsmuir, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family in Redding, California Saturday, July 24, 2010.

Memorial services will be held Friday, July 30 at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 1124 Pine Grove Drive in Mount Shasta. The Reverend James Cavener will officiate.

Alice was born November 1, 1921 to John and Roxie Stubrich of Kittanning, Pennsylvania. She lived in Pennsylvania until 1942.

She met Kenneth L. Griffith and they married August 24, 1945 in Los Angeles, where she worked for a family as a child care nurse and Ken was in the US Army stationed at Fort McArthur, San Pedro, California.

They moved to Dunsmuir after their marriage. Alice owned and operated the Fabric Shoppe in Dunsmuir for many years after her family was raised. They lived in Dunsmuir until 2003 when they both moved to Redding with their daughter.

Alice belonged to the First Lutheran Church, Dunsmuir; then to the Christ Lutheran Church, Mount Shasta.

Alice is survived by her son, Ron of Castella, California; daughter, Judy Combs, son-in-law Kelly of Redding, California; five grandchildren, Raylene Griffith-Young, Ronald Griffith of Anchorage, Alaska and Deena Monteiro, Kristina Byrd and Kelly Combs Jr. of Fresno, California; and seven great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by one sister, Ruth McVay of Kittanning, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Roy Stubrich of Hubbard, Ohio and Ralph Stubrich of Kittanning, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Kenneth Griffith; her parents; two sisters, Ivy Graham and Hazel Clark; two brothers, Homer Stubrich and Ray Stubrich; and a brother and sister who died in infancy, George and Alma Stubrich.
