Dorothy Irene Ekman, 88, a former resident of Mt. Shasta, California died September 11, 2010 at Marquis Care @ Plumridge, Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Dorothy was born August 7, 1921 in Indiana. Her family moved to Wisconsin where she met and married Carl Ekman.

The family relocated to McCloud, California in 1960 where they raised their six children. Dorothy went back to complete her high school education and graduated McCloud High School at the age of forty-nine. In 1971 she earned her AA Degree in Early Childhood Development from College of the Siskiyou in Weed, California. She then opened a preschool at the Evangelical Methodist Church in Mount Shasta in 1974. Her little students and their parents called her "Grandma Dorothy".

Dorothy loved the Lord Jesus and served Him in the capacities of Sunday School Superintendent, Director of Bible School and Youth Group leader. Dorothy brought children to Sunday school in her 1969 Chevy Chevelle station wagon from McCloud to Mt. Shasta, often times clearing a path in the snow.

Dorothy also held several Bible Classes around McCloud to reach the children for Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Carl, her children Gordon Ekman, Klamath Falls, Or. ; William & Sandy Ekman, Weed, Ca.; Mary Louise & Larry Lamphere, Lakeside, Mt.; James & Dee Ekman, Klamath Falls, Or.; Doris & Greg Macdonald, Happy Camp, Ca.; Tom Ekman & Lindy, Klamath Falls, Or.; fifteen grandchildren & numerous great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren & counting.

She touched many lives and will be greatly missed!
