Ignacio “Nacho” Escatel, a resident of Weed, passed away on January 14, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta. He was 48.

Nacho was born in Weed, California on June 13, 1962. He was a lifelong resident of Siskiyou County.

Nacho owned and operated a janitorial service in Weed.

He was involved with the Men’s Softball League, Weed Carnivale, Rolling Weed Car Show, and co-ed softball. Nacho enjoyed cooking, fishing, softball and the Oakland Raiders.

Survivors include his son, Joseph Escatel of San Jose; daughter, Eva Escatel of Weed; sisters, Ramona Franco and Anita Melendez, both of Weed; and his mother, Rosie Escatel of Weed.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosanna Escatel in 1993.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Weed with Father Melvin Conception officiating. Burial is at Winema Cemetery in Weed.
