Dunsmuir High School's varsity boys basketball team took over sole possession of third place in the Evergreen League with a 67-59 win over Happy Camp Tuesday night, Feb. 15, 2011.
The Tigers improved their record to 5-4 and 11-10, while Butte Valley fell to 4-5 and 6-15.
Dunsmuir is scheduled to conclude the regular season with its Carnival game this Friday night against Surprise Valley.
The Tigers went into the Butte Valley game hoping two wins in the final week of the season would improve their Northern Section Division VI ranking enough to earn a first round home game in the playoffs, which are scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Dunsmuir's girls lost to league leading Butte Valley, 77-37, while the Tiger JV boys beat the Bulldogs Tuesday, 67-59.
Butte Valley's girls improved to 9-0 and 18-3 while the Tigers fell to 1-8 and 10-10. Senior Katie McIntyre led the Tigers with 13points, while freshmen Marki Stibi and Chelsea Helms scored 8 apiece, freshman Corinn Webb 3, junior Clara Weld 2, junior Krystale Palmer 2, and sophomore Jessica Hatten 1.
The Tiger JV boys finished their Evergreen League season with a 5-3 record (9-5 overall). Mason Mekeel scored 17, Orion McRee 15, Jeff Rhoades 10, Justin DeClusin 9, Cody Hagedon 8, Kyle Rooney 6, and Dayton Pepperdine 1.
Surprise Valley does not have a JV team, but head coach Ray Kellar said on Monday that he was still hoping to find a team for his JV team to play Friday night.
