Mary Lou Graves passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the age of 82.

She was born in Mason City, Iowa on April 30, 1928 to Milo C. and Ethel M. Young. She was one of six children.

She moved to San Francisco where she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank. She met Gilbert Graves on a blind date and they were married on October 12, 1950. They had two daughters, Jane and Laura.

Mary Lou and Gil were long time residents of Mount Shasta before retiring to the Redding area approximately 25 years ago.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gilbert Graves of Redding; a daughter, Jane and her husband Milt of Vacaville; three grandsons, Mike of Burbank, Scott of Vacaville, Greg of Studio City; a great-granddaughter, Kylie of Vacaville; two sisters, Elizabeth of Lodi and Jane of Mason City, Iowa.

She was preceeded in death by a daughter, Laura; and three brothers, Richard, Jerry and Jack.
Mary Lou was a very simple person with much compassion and love. She was described by one of her friends as the poster child for love, strength, courage and beauty.

There will be no services at her request, but a day of remembrance of her life at a later time.
