Four south county high school basketball teams are advancing into the Northern Section playoffs, which are scheduled to begin Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 22 and 23.

The Shasta Cascade League champion Weed Cougars (18-5) are the No. 4 seed in Division V and will host No. 13 Williams (11-11) Wednesday night in Weed at 7 p.m.

Dunsmuir’s boys (12-10) are the No. 8 seed in Division VI. They will also host a first round game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against No. 9 American Christian (17-8).

Mount Shasta’s boys and Dunsmuir’s girls will both play first round games on the road Wednesday night.

Coming off a regular season ending victory over Weed this past Friday night, Mount Shasta’s boys (13-11) are seeded No. 10 in Division IV. They’ll play at No. 7 Anderson (11-15) Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Dunsmuir’s girls (11-10) earned their No. 9 seed in Division VI?with a season-ending win over Surprise Valley. They’re scheduled to open Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against No. 8 Champion Christian (11-10) in Chico.

Winning teams will advance to second round games on Thursday and Friday at the home of the higher seed.

With first round wins:

-- Weed would host either No. 5 Chester (21-4) or No. 12 Modoc (10-9) on Friday night.

-- Dunsmuir’s boys would play at No. 1 Paradise Adventist (21-3) on Thursday night.

-- Mount Shasta’s boys would play at No. 2 West Valley (15-11) Friday night.

-- Dunsmuir’s girls would play at No. 1 Westwood (21-4) Friday night.
