Things are about to get a lot colder in the Mt. Shasta area according to weather predictions from the National Weather Service.

An Arctic air outbreak is predicted to hit Southern Siskiyou County on Wednesday, Feb. 23, bringing with it snow at low elevations and “unusually cold air.”

The forecast shows “snow likely” through Friday, and temperatures in the Mt. Shasta area will most likely hover at or just below the freezing mark – ranging from 15 to 20 degrees below normal.

The airmass and upper level low pressure system will dive southward from Washington and Northern Oregon starting Wednesday night through Thursday, according to a special weather advisory. Several inches of snow are possible, even in the coastal area, the NWS states.
