Search and Rescue teams are searching Lake Shastina Monday morning for a person who went into the water Sunday evening.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Feb. 27 the Sheriff’s Department received a report of an overturned boat in the water on Lake Shastina, according to Sheriff’s spokesperson Allison Giannini.

One occupant of the boat was rescued on Milkhouse Island at approximately two hours later, at 7 p.m., Giannini stated.

As of 8 a.m. on Monday, the Department is continuing to search for the second occupant.

“This search is being severely hampered by weather. There are 40 mph winds and large swells on the lake, which create a very hazardous and dangerous situation for those searching,” Giannini said.

No further information is available at this time, added Giannini.
