The search for a missing boater on Lake Shastina will continue today as weather permits.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department Dive Recovery Team will search for 27 year old Weed resident Shaun Davis, who has been missing since Sunday evening, said Sheriff spokesperson Allison Giannini.

A second boater, 24 year old Jerrod Brown of Weed was rescued Sunday evening on Milkhouse Island, about two hours after their boat flipped.

Search and Rescue boat crews searched the lake all day Monday,  but they were hampered by 40 mile per hour winds and large swells on the lake, Giannini said.

Diving in the lake is “potentially very hazardous and dangerous” due to the inclement weather, Giannini added Tuesday morning, when teams were set to begin diving just after 7 a.m.

“I would like to remind all citizens that often times during this time of the year boating can be even more hazardous than usual,” said Sheriff Jon Lopey. “Precautions should be taken to include compliance with existing laws, lake rules and signs, carrying and wearing life preservers, bringing proper clothing, and carrying other safety equipment such as waterproof lights, radios and/or cellular phones. It is suggested that you notify family or friends of your destination, route and time of return should you decide to launch a boat at any local waterway.”
