As much as a foot of snow is expected to fall in Mount Shasta city and other areas of Southern Siskiyou County over the next two days, according to the National Weather Service.

A Winter Storm Warning for areas above 3,500 feet will remain in effect until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, with estimated snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches accompanied by 10 to 20 mile per hour winds.

During this time, travel may be dangerous, particularly on Highway 89 near Snowman’s Summit and on Interstate 5 near Black Butte Summit.

“If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of emergency,” the report states.
