Lois Marie Degen Cozad, a resident of Weed, passed away on March 4, 2011 at home with her loving daughter Susan and the loving care of Mercy Hospice. She was 85 years old.

Lois was born in Fort Madison, Iowa on May 4, 1925. She moved to southern California when she was five; moved to Napa in 1966; and then to Weed in 2000.

Lois worked for Kahn, Stern & Blaney Attorneys in Inglewood and then Napa County Health Department until 1982.

She was president of South West Optimists Mrs. Club, Eastern Star and White Shrine. She also volunteered for Kaiser Premanente.

Lois was the first and best tailgater at soccer games. She enjoyed camping, gardening, sewing and cooking.

Survivors include her son, Arthur Cozad of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters, Susan Bertino of Weed and Carolyn Rice of South Dakota; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great, great-grandchildren.

At her request no services will be held. Burial was private.

Arrangements were made by Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel.
