College of the Siskiyous swept Shasta College Friday in Redding to stay in the thick of the Golden Valley Conference championship race, while the Weed High School baseball team shook off a 17-0 game-one loss to visiting Mount Shasta and won the nightcap 4-3.

Mount Shasta's softball team swept the Cougars in Weed, 20-4 and 9-0, as Tori Weatherford hit three inside the park home runs at Bel Air Park and Kayla Spini struck out 14 in the seven-inning second game.

The Cougars' baseball win Friday at Son's Park was their first over the Bears in more than 10 years.

Siskiyous' softball and baseball teams are both playing GVC doubleheaders at home Saturday beginning at noon.

After losing twice at Feather River (13-1, 25-6) and falling into third place Tuesday, the Eagle softball team (13-3, 30-5) moved back up to second place with Friday's sweep at Shasta (10-4, 24-11). Feather River is scheduled to play at Shasta Saturday, then comes to Siskiyous Tuesday for the regular season finale.

The COS baseball team is playing two against Redwoods Saturday and one Sunday. Siskiyous defeated Redwoods twice Tuesday in Eureka, 10-0 and 13-3.
