It’s sophomore job shadow time at Weed High School! Students have been all around Weed and Mount Shasta, learning more about their job field of interest and seeing how it’s done first hand.

On Tuesday, May 17, Griffin Hough job shadowed Sylvia Massy at the Radiostar Studio in Weed. He got to work hands on doing things like moving, setting up, and testing music equipment. He also got the chance to see a hard rock band all the way from Israel named Onoma.

Wednesday, May 18, Josh Rodgers spent time at JB Automotive in Weed. Josh wants to work in automotive one day and got to see things like how to take out a pickup’s water pump.

On the same day, Jeni Cheffey and Daisy Fernandez job shadowed teachers at Weed Elementary School. Jeni said she would like to become a teacher at a larger school, while Daisy wants to teach lower grade students.

There were many other job shadows as well. Jamie Fiorini spent the day at the Alpine Veterinary Hospital in Weed. Jamie got to help give a rabies vaccination, learned about surgeries and the utensils used, and spent time with two kittens, Licorice and Harry, that are motherless and have to be bottle fed.

Also, Ryan Nova and Alfredo Gonzalez went to Mount Shasta Forestry and got a taste of what forest work is like. Another student, Cody Williams, spent the day at Mount Shasta’s ACME Computer Center.

Matthew Morgan and I also job shadowed in Mount Shasta at the local newspapers. We spent the first half of our day chasing down other job shadowers, taking notes, and snapping pictures. The second half of our day was spent in the office, learning first hand how a newspaper is put together, and about all the work that goes into making it perfect each and every week.

Thank you to everyone at Weed High School for setting up our sophomore job shadows and thank you to all the businesses that were kind enough to work with us. We appreciate it!
