Mt. Shasta Hillclimb 2011, a bike ride from downtown Mount Shasta to the Old Ski Bowl, is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. this Saturday, Aug. 6.

Described as a “fun-but-competitive  event” and “not a race,”?the 14 mile climb begins with a mass start at the 3,700-foot elevation and ends at 7,800 feet, a gain of 4,100 feet.

Organized by Mount Shasta Pedali, a local non-profit cycling group dedicated to the promotion of cycling, the Hillclimb is sponsored by The Fifth Season, “Do It Best” Hardware, General Produce, and Berryvale Grocery.

Registration will be held from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. Saturday morning in The Fifth Season parking lot. The entry fee is $20. Awards will be presented for categories of all ages. A raffle drawing for prizes will follow the event.

The first male finisher under 60 minutes and first female finisher under 70 minutes will receive special awards courtesy of Tri Counties Bank, Shasta Training and Consulting, Inc., and Kellogg Engineering.
