Moooo!

From Gene Eagle, McCloud

Ya know, I was just settin' here thinkin'. When I was a youngster we lived on a working dairy farm. Before daylight each day us kids had to go out in the pastures and bring the cows in for milking. We helped feed them, wash them down, milk them with machine and by hand, bottle-fed and help raise some of their calves, and ate a few of them.

Up until three months ago I never dreamed that sometime later in my life that one of these "bovines" would be donating a small valve from her heart to replace my heavily calcified aortic heart valve.

Without it the doctor said, based on all the testing and the symptons I was having, I probably would be dead in a year.

?I now have a greater respect for these animals. I can't hardly eat a cheeseburger or steak, or drink a glass of milk without thinking about the gift given me. I say that with all sincerity.

One day this thinking will fade from my memory so right now I want to thank the cow and all the cows out there whose valves are taken, so's us folks could enjoy a longer and better quality of Life. THANK YOU... from the bottom of OUR heart. MOOOOO!

Greatful for what we have

From Janet McLaughlin, Mount Shasta

I am thankful for being able to live in Siskiyou County and Mount Shasta.  What an incredible place! But, since you will probably get many of those sentiments, I will submit something a little more creative:

I am thankful for finally achieving an age where life makes sense and I can appreciate everything that has happened to me:  the good, the incredible, the bad, and the ugly. I believe that we unfold and blossom, not unlike the universe expanding.
