If this week’s storm continues to build like the National Weather Service predicts it will, Mt. Shasta Ski Park plans to open this Saturday, much to the delight of those who have been hungry to hit the slopes.

Three inches of snow have fallen at the park in the past 24 hours, and the forecast calls for much more over the next few days said Jim Mullins, marketing director at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park.

“It’s not official, but we are aiming for Saturday,” Mullins said Wednesday afternoon.

Over the past week, temperatures dropped low enough for the Park to make snow, Mullins said. A total of eight million gallons of water were used to blow snow to create a base layer.

There is no magic amount of snow the Park needs to open; it all depends on getting good coverage, Mullins added.
