Several big rigs, a mail truck, a California Highway Patrol car and a tour bus carrying 34 passengers were involved in a wreck this morning which closed Interstate 5 for several hours.

The accident was reported at approximately 7:30 a.m. in the northbound lane near Volmers, according to the CHP traffic incident information website.

The accident may have been caused when the tour bus clipped the back of a big rig, according to the website.

The highway was reopened for northbound traffic at approximately 2:30 p.m., according to Caltrans.

A high wind advisory is currently in effect from Weed to Yreka, and travel is not recommended for campers, trailers or permit loads. Northbound trucks are being screened at the Fawndale exit in Redding. Drivers must have maximum chains in their possession in order to proceed, and permit loads are prohibited.
