Spud Koon passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 from terminal brain cancer.
Spud was born on April 4, 1946 in Clearwater, Florida. He lived in Florida until moving to Siskiyou County in 1981, where he, his wife, and two children settled in Montague to ranch.

Spud had many occupations over his working life. He worked for Largo Police Department and for General Telephone Company in Florida.

After ranching here, where he was very active in Farm Bureau and Cattlemen, he worked in Elko, Nevada in the gold mines. His last 15 years of work were for Operating Engineers paving highways. He retired in 2008.

Spud loved life, especially sports. He was passionate about golf and tennis.

Motorcycles were part of his life, too. In his younger years he raced in Enduros and short track. Out here, he enjoyed his Harley! This past summer Spud, Kathy and a couple friends went on his dream motorcycle vacation traveling about 4,600 miles.

Spud loved his family dearly. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and papa.

He leaves his wife of 46 years, Kathy; son, Jamie and fiance Nickey Autry; daughter, Teresa and husband Erik Bennett; granddaughter, Teagan Rose; sister, FayLynn Koon of Cleveland, Ohio; brother, Bruce and sister-in-law Diane of Tampa, Florida.

Spud touched many hearts through his work with youth and his many friends.  Remember his passion for life and cherish your memories of him.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. at Montague Community Hall. It will be a potluck with meat provided. If you would like to bring a dish please contact Blair Loftus at 905-0865.
