An opening for David Joaquin’s new series of paintings, “Visions of the Bird People,” is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 27 at The Gallery in Mount Shasta.

The event will also feature Grammy-nominated instrumentalist Gentle Thunder of Mount Shasta playing her hand-crafted wooden blue heron flute beginning at about 5:30 p.m.

Joaquin, who will attend the opening, said his intention is to “create an ongoing collection that focuses on the spirit and traditions of Native America, both north and south, past and present. I want to show the Society Regalia and to also reveal the visions of the young dancers through the natural earth pigments I paint with.”
