A Mount Shasta man pled guilty last week to one count of committing lewd acts against a child and faces three years in state prison.

Donald Mead, age 69, was arrested by the Mount Shasta Police Department in September after a teenage victim came forward with evidence against him, said Siskiyou County District Attorney Kirk Andrus.

“Mead admitted to law enforcement that he committed the offenses and has been cooperative with the investigation,” Andrus said. “We contacted the victim's family and they agree with the proposed sentence.”

Mead, who has no prior criminal record, was initially charged with two counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, two counts of a lewd act on a child 14 to 15 years of age, and two counts of oral copulation with a person under 16, according to online court documents.

Even under State Realignment, which went into effect in October and changes the way the local jail and court system handles inmates, Mead will serve his sentence in state prison because it is a sexual offense, Andrus said. He will also be required to register as PC 290 sexual offender for life.

During Mead’s felony pre-trial hearing, his case was referred to the probation department for a sentencing report, Andrus said. He will be sentenced in a Siskiyou County Superior Courtroom on March 6.
