If you have a budding artist in the house, you may want to consider entering their art in the Mountain Runners' July 4th t-shirt contest for the chance to win $500.

This year's contest is open to kindergarten through 8th grade students only (ages 5-14).

This is a break in the traditional shirt design contests which were dominated by professional artists. This year's choice to make the contest for kids only is a way to get youngsters more involved, said the Siskiyou Arts Council, who sponsors the contest.

Each shirt must depict Mt. Shasta and a native wildflower that hasn't been used in years past.

A list of all 32 previously used wildflowers and contest criteria may be picked up  at the Siskiyou Arts Council Gallery & Cultural Center, 418 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd., Mt. Shasta.
