The Weed Recreation District, in partnership with Weed High School, will host the annual Youth Basketball Camp at the Weed High School gym beginning on Saturday, March 10.

Kids throughout the county, in grades 308 are invited to take to the courts for the four week program, under the coaching supervision of  varsity coach Mike Carpine, assisted by members of the WHS Cougars.

Coach Carpine expects a great turn out for this year’s program and is looking forward to working with the aspiring hoopsters who will be led through fun drills and skill-building techniques to introduce and fine-tune basic skills, as well as gaining experience as team players during game scrimmages to better their basketball skills and develop a further enjoyment of the game.

Players will be led through a four-week instructional program scheduled on Saturday mornings March 10 through March 31.  The co-ed program will follow an hour-long, age-group instruction format with  3rd-4th graders  attending from 9 to 10 a.m.  Instruction follows for 5th-6th graders from 10 to 11a.m., followed by the 7th-8th grade group from 11 a.m to noon.

Registration forms will be distributed this week at Weed Elementary and other local schools.  Parents are asked to bring the completed forms to the gym on Saturday, March 10.  Fee for the 4-week program is $30 per player, with payment going to Weed High School in support of the boy’s varsity basketball program.  All camp participants will receive a 2012 Basketball Camp t-shirt.

Registration closes for all age groups on March 17.
