Ramiro “Ray” M. Olmos Sr., a resident of Mount Shasta, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta. He was 75 years old.

Ray was born in Tlachichila Zacatecas, Mexico on May 30, 1936. He immigrated to southern California and then moved to Siskiyou County in 1968, where he met and married Shirley Carrillo of Mount Shasta in 1973.

Ray and Shirley were happily married for 39 years, having four children.

Ray worked as a logger until his retirement in 2001. He was a devoted Catholic, as a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Mount Shasta.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association; and Dunsmuir Rod and Gun Club, where he continued his love for the outdoors.

He enjoyed guns, shooting, painting, woodworking, gardening and landscaping.

Ray will always be remembered for his loving dedication and commitment to his family and friends. He was a benevolent husband and father, as well as a wise mentor to many. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Olmos of Mount Shasta; sons, Ray Olmos Jr.  of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Juan Jose Olmos, of Westminster, California; daughters, Linda Abel of Seattle, Washington  and Lisa Olmos of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii; brothers, Jesus Olmos of Alhambra, Jose Olmos of Montepello, and Nichous Olmos of Texas; sister, Alicia Olmos of Mexico; and three grandchildren, Ryan Olmos, Sophia Olmos and Nathaniel Burns.

The Rosary is planned for Friday, April 20 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mount Shasta. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon with Reverend Michael Canny officiating. Burial is at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park.
