Tom O'Hara, a longtime area artist and musician, is joining The Gallery family of artists.

An artist reception for O'Hara's art show at The Gallery is scheduled for Sept. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. during the 4th Friday Art Walk in downtown Mount Shasta.

Among other public art creations, O'Hara painted the mural on Berryvale's building next to the post office parking lot, and he recently completed a new mural in Yreka.

Raised in upstate New York in the Adirondack Mountains, O'Hara resides in Mount Shasta with his wife Julie Bennett, an avid taiko drummer.

He attended the California College of Arts and Crafts and Royal Academy of Art in London and worked as a Disney artist in 1984.

His work is represented in private collections internationally and in numerous museums such as the William F. Cody Museum, Oakland Museum, San Jose Museum, California Railroad Museum, and Walt Whitman Museum.

After focusing on other activities, such as starting a business and playing in a jazz band, O'Hara said his love of art has resurfaced and he is painting in oils and watercolors.

O'Hara's artistic topics includes landscapes, musicians, figurative nudes, horses, and even children's stories.

He and Julie authored and illustrated a children's book, "Rex Reads," and are working on a second book titled "Rex's Garden."

Some of his artwork will be on display at The Gallery, as well their book, "Rex Reads."

The artist reception will include Pietri Winery's wines available for tasting.
