Roger G. Pauletto, 69 of Newman passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18 in Sacramento.
Roger was a native of Weed, Calif., attended College of the Siskiyous and received his Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Sacramento. In later years, he also earned his masters degree from Sacramento. He had a great passion for football and in his first coaching position at CSU, Sacramento he led his team into an undefeated, un-scored upan and championship season.
In 1968, Roger and his family moved to Newman and he began his career of coaching football at Orestimba High School. In addition to coaching at Orestimba, through the years, Roger coached football, basketball, track and tennis. In all, his coaching career spanned almost 40 years. He also served as the athletic director at Orestimba High School. While coaching at Orestimba, Roger led the Warriors to a Trans Valley League football title in 1970, his first hear as head coach after serving for two seasons as an assistant coach. He later led the Warriors to Southern League crowns in 1977, 1980 and 1981.
In addition to coaching, Roger was an accomplished teacher. He started and ended his career at Orestimba. In between teaching at Orestimba were two tours of duty at Yolo, where he taught math and a seven year stint at the helm of the opportunity school, which was part of the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District's alternative education program. He will be remembered by most of his students and athletes as a dedicated and heartfelt mentor. Roger was a member and past-president of the original Newman Lions Club, a member of the Newman Moose Lodge, a member of the Newman Knights of Columbus and a parishoner at St. Joachim's Catholic Church.
Roger is survived by his wife of 45 years and 11 months, Lillian of Newman; a daughter, Citrea (Jay) Indelicato of Manteca; two sons, Randy (Michelle) of Boulder, Colorado and Rodric (Jenica) of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Danton and CAmdan Indelicato; Allyson, Benjamin and Will Pauletto; and KayLynn, Gabriel and Bristol Paulette; and his mother Amelia Pauletto of Turlock. He was preceded in death by his father Tranquillo Pauletto.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, October 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim's Catholic Church, Newman. Private burial will be held at a later date.
