George R. Wright, a resident of Likely, California, died at Warnerview Convalescent Home in Alturas, California on April 11, 2013. He was 89 years old.

George was born on July 7, 1923 in Long Beach, California to C.N. Wright and Mildred G. (Evans) Wright.

George married Shirley Ristau on December 22, 1962 in Redding, California.

George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Wright of Likely; one son, Steven of Sacramento, California; two grandsons, Jameson Wright of Peoria, Arizona and Ron Fisher of Lodi, California; and one great-granddaughter, Kayla Fisher of Sacramento, California. His parents preceded him in death.

George was in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943-1945. He was a First Lieutenant flying B-24 Bombers. He earned the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross, ETO with one Bronze Star, and Presidential Unit Citation.

When George came out of the service, he returned to Mount Shasta and went into business with his father in the Shasta Welding and Body Shop.

George was a 25-year member of the Mount Shasta Fire Department. He was also a member of the Likely Fire Department after moving to Likely in 1979.

George enjoyed restoring Model T trucks and woodworking.

There will be a potluck on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Likely Fire Hall.

His wishes were to be cremated and no services.
