Cars and trucks in all shapes, sizes and colors of the rainbow will line Mt. Shasta Blvd. during the 25th annual Mt. Shasta Police Department Car Show & Shine this Saturday, Aug. 31.

The Boulevard will be blocked off to traffic as cars, sidewalk sales and food vendors take over downtown from 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m.

The evening before, on Friday, Aug. 30, classic cars will take to the streets for the Friday Night Cruise, which is followed by a barbecue at Shastice Park from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

For $10 for adults and $7 for children, friends and family can feast on barbecued tri-tip and chicken, beans, salad, bread, soda/water and a dessert provided by Mt. Shasta Supermarket's Keith Cool.

Proceeds from the Show and Shine go to “help make Mount Shasta the wonderful place it is,” said Mount Shasta Police Department Chief Parish Cross.

“Funds go to the Community Enhancement Program,” Cross said. “The majority is donated to the Mount Shasta Community Resource Center, who carry out our mission and helps everyone, across the spectrum, in our community.”

Depending on how much the show brings in, proceeds may also go to the Senior Nutrition Program and to make bags for elementary school kids in the Halloween Safety Program, Cross said.

“We’re expecting a nice show of about 175 cars,” said Cross. “It’s a fun time, I’m looking forward to getting out there and checking them all out.”

The Show & Shine is a non sanctioned show and 15 trophies are awarded by individual judges, participants and spectators selecting their favorite cars.

It’s not too late to register. For $35, participants qualify for the show, receive a dash plaque and a 25th annual Show & Shine t-shirt.

An additional ten bucks for adults or seven for children buys the Friday night barbecue feast.
