  • The weather was perfect for the 2nd annual Dunsmuir Elementary Run for the Arts held Saturday. The 5k and ½ Marathon events ran smoothly and, according to Cooper Park-Thomas, “It was fun and beautiful.”
Cooper, a runner on the Shasta High cross country team in Redding, was the 1st place winner in the 5k race.
Nine year old Trenton Mack placed 2nd, and Kaitlyn Edward was 3rd. Both Kaitlyn and Trenton are on the DES cross country team.
Don Sisting of Camarillo decided to run the ½ marathon while he was visiting his parents in Dunsmuir. He heard about the event from his Facebook page. Good thing for him, as he was the overall winner in the race.
Tommy Nosek, training for the Redding Marathon next month, took 2nd after missing a turn and running an extra few miles. “I could have run five more miles,” said Nosek. “There was never a dull sight.”
Wendy Black of Montague was the first female to cross the finish line after running a bit more than a 1/2 Marathon. She too, took a wrong turn and ran an extra half mile. She was good humored about the error saying, “If there is a way to get lost in a race, I will do it.”
There was high praise from the runners for all the volunteers, especially the members of the Mount Shasta Amateur Radio Club, who were spread out throughout the ½ Marathon course to offer assistance.
