Scott Jacob Dowell, a resident of McCloud, California since 1937, passed away on June 18, 2015 at Shasta Regional Medical Center in Redding, California. He was 100 years old.

Scott was born in Chillicothe, Missouri on November 25, 1914 to Charles and Della Dowell, the middle child of nine children.

Scott married Thelma Gann and they became California’s longest married couple – 79 years! Together, they had three children: Robert, Dorothy and Naomi.

Scott worked at Champion International Lumber for 40 years.

Scott was a compassionate man with a generous heart who loved camping with his family, fishing, birdwatching, and was a great vegetable gardener – especially tomatoes. At the time of his death, there were six generations of his family alive.

Scott is survived by his daughter, Naomi Chamberlain of Happy Valley, California; 4 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous great, great-grandchildren; and 2 great, great, great-grandchildren.

Scott was predeceased by his beloved Thelma in 2013; his son, Robert Dowell; and his daughter, Dorothy Brock.

There will be a memorial service for Scott on Thursday, July 9 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel in Mount Shasta.

Scott will be interred at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park next to Thelma.
