Now in its 5th year, Jazz in the Canyon 2016 has expanded to include 22 live performances and other events at 16 venues in Dunsmuir from this Friday, June 24 to July 4.

In addition to live music, many Dunsmuir businesses have joined in to celebrate Jazz in the Canyon.

And Jim Gordon will speak on Wednesday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Pops Performing Arts and Cultural Center in Dunsmuir, preceding Allison and Victor and the Midnight Band’s performance.

Gordon is a retired jazz bassist who played music in Chicago and New York. He will speak about Louis Armstrong, whom he knew, the New Orleans jazz scene, and the Chicago jazz scene in the 1950s.

Retired to McCloud, Gordon was also a community leader for Martin Luther King Jr. for which he is now receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Fresno Latino Rotary. His wife Lauren is a poet and they are both avid supporters of the arts in Siskiyou County.

Pops is located at 5819 Sacramento Avenue, across from the Amtrak Station. For more information see popsdunsmuir.com.
