Ernst Paul Strehle, born January 24, 1931 in Duerr-Kunzendorf, Schlesien Germany, passed peacefully with his family by his side on February 3, 2017.
Ernst grew up in a loving family with sisters Dordel and Ursel, and brother, Manfred in a peaceful countryside home until events of WWII forced them to flee to West Germany. His family found a new home and settled in Willingen, Germany. It was in Willingen where he met the love of his life, Anneliese. Happily married 61 years, they have made Lake Shastina their retirement home, after living ten years in Krefeld, Germany and twenty-seven years in South San Francisco, CA.
Ernst had a passion for working creatively with wood, which he made his life’s career as a cabinetmaker. After retirement from Allwood Door Company in San Francisco in 1993, he continued to enjoy working in his woodshop in Lake Shastina, creating beautiful furniture for the homes of his family.
Ernst and Anneliese were members of the Siskiyou Wanderers, a group with which they enjoyed the many lovely hikes Siskiyou County has to offer. An avid sportsman all his life, Ernst enjoyed skiing, hiking, swimming, and bicycling.
As a member of the Mt. Shasta Chess Club, Ernst participated in local and international chess tournaments and volunteered at Sisson School in Mount Shasta, organizing a chess club for students in grades K-8.
While living in South San Francisco, Ernst was a member of the Hermann-Soehne, where he served as president on a rotational basis.
With a true loving heart, he loved animals, literature, poetry, and music, and enjoyed a profound knowledge and interest in world history.
Ernst Paul Strehle is survived by his loving wife, Anneliese Strehle, four children, Barbara Hoeffler, Ute Micklos, Ina Strehle-Talamantez, and Michael Strehle, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister Ursel Krausse, among extended family in Germany. Ernst was preceded in death by his beloved son, Achim, his brother, Manfred, and sister, Dordel.
