Rodney Barr, the new store's independent-owner operator, also invites the community to a grand opening event on Feb. 25.

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, described in a media advisory as “the nation’s fastest-growing, extreme-value grocery retailer,” is opening its first store in Weed on Feb. 23.

Grocery Outlet says it expects the store in Weed, located at 268 Vista Drive, to create more than 25 new jobs in the community.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m., officiated by the Weed and Mount Shasta chambers of commerce. It will feature a $1,000 donation in Grocery Outlet gift cards to Siskiyou Food Assistance.

Customers will be treated to a complimentary luncheon provided by The Garden Party Catering from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a $10 minimum purchase while supplies last.

Rodney Barr, the independent-owner operator of the new store, invites the community to attend a special grand opening event on Saturday, Feb. 25.

The first 100 customers in line, age 18 or over, will receive a 25% off coupon that must be redeemed that day.

Rodney Barr has more than 35 years of experience in the grocery and produce industries.

He started his career at other local independent supermarkets and moved on to wholesale produce at General Produce in Mount Shasta before returning to retail grocery with Ray’s Food Place in 2007.

After managing six different locations in eight years, Rodney “saw an opportunity with Grocery Outlet to bring an affordable grocery shopping option to his home town community,” according to the media advisory. “Rodney was raised in this community with his six older brothers by his mother and attented the local schools and college.

“Rodney, along with his partner Rachel and son Ronin, is excited to become an independent business owner/operator and contribute to the economic and social needs of the community that he calls home.”

Based in Emeryville, Calif., Grocery Outlet states that it “offers big savings on brand name products, with customers able to save 40% to 70% compared to conventional retailers.”

Grocery Outlet has more than 250 locations in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington.

A third-generation, family-led company founded in 1946, Grocery Outlet says its mission “has always been to provide customers an exciting place to find WOW savings on name brands they trust.”

Grocery Outlet stores are run by independent owner-operators in the local community.
