Fred Tranquillo Salvestrin, a resident of Weed, California, passed away on February 22, 2017 at Madrone Hospice in Yreka, California. He was 94 years old.
Fred was born in Cavaso del Tomba, Italy on September 5, 1922. He moved to Siskiyou County in 1938.
Fred was a veteran of the US Army, serving during World War II. He was a millwright worker for Long Bell Lumber Company and International Paper Company before his retirement.
Fred enjoyed woodworking, gardening, 49er football, and fishing. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, and Golden Seniors.
Survivors include his wife, Cesira Salvestrin of Weed; son, John (and Debi) Salvestrin of Weed; daughters: Elizabeth (and Pete) Wintersteen of Brookings, Oregon, Jeannette (and Rod) Vinall of Weed, and Lawrie Salvestrin of Chico.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mount Shasta, with Reverend Josy Matthew officiating. Burial is at Winema Cemetery in Weed.
