On April 29 from 4–6 p.m., the Butte Valley Fire Protection District will be holding its 18th annual barbecue and fundraiser.

The meal consists of Prather Ranch ribs or chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, baked beans, bread and desserts.

There will also be beer, soda, water and lemonade. The cost is $15 for adults, $5 for school age kids and free for pre-school kids.

BVFD is a volunteer district with a five person board, seven volunteer firefighters, two engines, a water tender and a brush truck.

They also house one of the Butte Valley ambulances and at least four firemen have at least first responder training.

As with most rural volunteer departments, BVFD gets some tax dollars but otherwise is funded with donations and fundraisers.

After eating there will be an auction of various donated items. Some are auctioned orally and some with raffle tickets.

The final raffles are for two guns: A Browning 270 Creedmore 6.5, and a 9 millimeter Glock.

Tickets for the guns are on sale now at local Dorris businesses, from Butte Valley firemen or by calling the Fire Chief at (530) 398-4500.

Raffle ticket holders need not be present to win.
