It was a rough outing for the Yreka Miners varsity baseball team on Friday.

Hosting longtime rival Lassen at Hibbard Field, Yreka jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings against the Grizzlies. The Miners led 7-3 heading into the fifth inning when things started to fall apart, as Lassen’s bats awoke in a big way as they put up an eye-popping 14 runs on the scoreboard. Yreka used four pitchers in the inning as YHS found themselves down 17-7. Yreka scored a run the bottom of the fifth and in the sixth, while Lassen put up up two runs in the seventh, as the Miners lost the Northern Athletic League contest by 10 runs. Lassen finished with 18 hits for the game, while Yreka had seven.

On Tuesday, YHS defeated Lassen on the road 8-5. Yreka fell to 5-3 in the NAL and 15-8 overall, while the Grizzlies improved to 6-2 in the NAL and 17-8 overall. West Valley remains in first in the NAL at 7-1.

Dawson Fraley finished 2-for-4 for the Miners with three runs, an RBI and a double. Eamon Velarde went 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI, and a run. Dylan Quigley finished 2-for-4 with a run, while Quinn Horvath went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Next week, YHS ends the regular season with three games. On Tuesday, Yreka is on the road versus Anderson. Wednesday, the Miners faces Durham at home in a non-league contest and host Anderson at home on senior night.
