Red Rock Books celebrated Independent Bookstore Day Saturday with freebies and fun.
Book lovers noshed on cupcakes decorated with edible book cover replicas, readers tested their literary IQs playing “Book Bingo” and kids engaged their creativity with duct tape crafts. Representatives from the local chapter of Ridge Writers were on hand to talk about writing, along with local author Vivian Hayes.
Rounding things out was a “Temporary Tattoo Parlor” where people could try on fake tattoos featuring literary quotes — for free.
Independent Bookstore Day began in California in 2014 and became a national event the following year.
Famous authors including Neil Gaiman and Stephen King have donated work to the event, and indie bookstores typically feature all kinds of deals and goodies.
Red Rock Books held their own version of the event from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and judging by the enjoyment of the participants, it was a success.
