As part of Dunsmuir’s Railroad Days festivities this upcoming weekend, the College of the Siskiyous/South Siskiyou Men’s Softball Association along with Wonderland Distributing will host the event’s annual softball tournament at Dunsmuir’s City Park.
Ten teams – some travelling from as far as the Bay Area – will compete in about 26 games Friday through Sunday on the field where Hall of Fame legend Babe Ruth once played.
“It’s probably one of the better tournaments of the summer,” said event organizer Chris Hanson. “Some high caliber teams will be here to play.”
The double elimination tournament will kick off at about 6:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday’s and Sunday’s games commence at 8 a.m. with the championship match-up to occur Sunday in the late afternoon.
Three teams from the South Siskiyou men’s league will compete, the Banquet Boys, Brew Crew and Cannon’s Market, as well as squads from Yreka, Susanville, Chico and Anderson. The local Banquet Boys and Brew Crew have yet to lose a league game this season.
The event is being catered by Stini who will be serving BBQ tri tips and chicken. Beer and other refreshments also will be on hand.
